Introduction and Getting Started
Congratulations on becoming a director at Stage Coach Theatre! If this is your first show with us, welcome and buckle up! If it’s not, then welcome back! SCT hopes to make this a rewarding experience for everyone involved, and we are committed to doing everything we can to support you in your journey.
I highly encourage you to take a look at the Pre-Production section of the Director’s packet. It covers most of what you’ll need to know in more detail, but here’s a few highlights to consider first:
- Build your team – SCT can connect you with known/regular volunteers, but SCT does not staff your show for you – ultimately it is up to you to decide what roles your show needs and who is best to fill them.
- Determine your audition dates – As a guideline, figure out how long you need to rehearse your show, then add a week or two to that, and you’ve got your audition dates. Avoid holidays if possible. As soon as you know your dates, let the Executive Committee, Operations Manager, and Content Marketer know so we can make arrangements.
- Start working with your designers (Set, Costume, Props, Lighting, Sound etc.) as soon as possible – these technical details can be daunting, and the sooner you get the ball rolling the better.
- Start outlining your budget. If you think you’ll go over $500, put together a budget estimate and provide to the Executive Committee for approval.
When in doubt, contact the Executive Committee, and we can get you pointed in the right direction. Thank you for your service to our theater and our creative community. Together we will produce fantastic enriching entertainment!
